Ultherapy: What Is It & How Does It Work?
If you’ve been wanting tighter skin on your face, neck, and chest without an invasive procedure like a facelift, ultherapy could be a great solution for you. Are you currently scratching your head asking what is ultherapy? We’re here to cover the ins and outs of ultherapy so you can decide if it’s right for you!
What is ultherapy?
Ultherapy employs focused ultrasound waves to treat the deeper layers of your epidermis (skin). The waves are used to heat the skin tissue and, this way, are able to tighten the skin without breaking the surface. The treatment stimulates the production of new collagen, allowing the skin to look younger and brighter going forward.
What areas does ultherapy treat?
Ultherapy is typically used to tighten the skin around the eyes, cheeks, jawline, mouth, and neck. These are areas that typically have more wrinkles or begin to sag over time based on the movements of your face.
What can I expect during the procedure?
Your provider will use a handheld ultrasound device to emit waves into your skin at precise amounts and depths. Some people have noted feeling discomfort when the ultrasound waves are delivered into their skin, which is why at our offices we use a topical anesthetic to ensure that our patients have a pain-free experience. You may experience some redness or tenderness after the procedure, but that usually clears up within an hour or so.

How many sessions do I need?
Most people get 1-2 treatments of ultherapy, with treatment times ranging from an hour to an hour and a half depending on what areas are being treated. The full results of the procedure usually appear over three to six months’ time. Due to the natural aging process of your skin, it’s recommended that you receive treatments every couple of years to maintain your desired effects.
Who can get ultherapy?
Ultherapy—while it doesn’t replace surgery—is a good option for people who are hesitant to get a face lift or undergo a more invasive procedure for facial skin tightening. Ultherapy also has the best results on people who still have a moderate amount of elasticity in their skin.
How much does the procedure cost?
The average cost of ultherapy is anywhere from $1,200 to upwards of $4,500 depending on the region in which you live, your provider’s level of experience, and how many areas you want or need treated. For the month of February we’re offering a great special – patients can receive one under eye treatment for just $325!

What are the side effects of ultherapy?
Though ultherapy is a common procedure and is considered very safe, there are still potential side effects, as with any treatment. These can include pain and swelling in the treated areas, and in rare cases also numbness or nerve damage. These side effects are rare and, in most cases, very short-lived.
Ultherapy is a wonderful alternative to more invasive surgical procedures aimed at delivering similar results.
