What Is Sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure that effectively treats varicose veins and spider veins.

How It Works

During the procedure, your provider will inject a saline solution directly into your vein. The solution irritates the lining of your blood vessels, causing them to collapse and stick together so that a clot may form. This forces blood to reroute through healthier veins, and the treated vein is then reabsorbed into local tissue and fades from sight completely.

FAQs

How quickly will I see results from Sclerotherapy?

Most treated veins will fade within just a few weeks of treatment, although in more extreme cases it may take up to two months to see the full results from your Sclerotherapy treatment. Once achieved, the results from Sclerotherapy are permanent.

Is Sclerotherapy treatment painful?

One of the best things about Sclerotherapy is that it is fairly painless and requires no downtime. You may experience mild discomfort or cramping when larger veins are injected, but this is very rare.

Are there are side effects from Sclerotherapy?

As with any procedure, there is always a risk of minimal side effects when undergoing Sclerotherapy treatment. Patients may experience itching, redness, or inflammation at the injection site, but this is generally mild and should go away within a few days. Bruising is also a possibility, especially for older patients or those who bruise easily.
