What Is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is an aesthetic procedure that uses a special applicator with an abrasive surface to gently sand away the thick outer layer of the skin on your face and neck, rejuvenating it and minimizing the signs of aging. Microdermabrasion has a multitude of uses and treatments such as acne, scarring from acne, fine lines and wrinkles, dark spots, or sun damage. The treatment uses crystals to remove dead skin cells, reduce the appearance of pores, and improve overall skin texture on all skin types.

How It Works

Microdermabrasion is commonly used to help treat fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, age spots, brown spots, acne and acne scarring, dull looking skin, melasma, skin that is uneven in tone or texture, sun damage, and enlarged pores and blackheads.

FAQs

How long does microdermabrasion take?

Microdermabrasion is fairly fast, with the treatment taking on average just one 30-60 minute visit. You’ll be in and out same-day with instant results!

How long do the results from microdermabrasion last?

Most patients start to see immediate results the same day that their treatment is conducted, with improvements to their faces’ appearance, smoothness, and texture. Although microdermabrasion treatments can be done on a one time basis with lasting results, receiving multiple treatments at intervals of every 2-3 weeks will allow patients to see more dramatic, long-lasting results.

Is microdermabrasion painful?

Believe it or not, microdermabrasion is completely painless! The procedure uses small, abrasive crystals to gently slough off the outer skin and exfoliate. Although patients may experience a slight warming sensation, the procedure causes no pain and does not require a topical anesthetic.

Are there any side effects?

Some patients experience some initial redness and increased skin sensitivity directly after receiving treatment, but these side effects are mild and typically disappear the same day. Patients are advised to be vigilant with sunscreen for the first few weeks after receiving microdermabrasion, as your newly revealed skin will be at a higher risk for sunburn.
